1. a two-dimensional plane as seen by an observer. It can also be a three-dimensional particle,
meaning an object which has no yet not been assigned any attribute other than shape. The
crucial notion conveyed by the word dot is that the object is seen with such little magnifica-
tion (i.e., from so far away) that even its precise shape is indistinguishable.
